Will Austin has been a practicing physical therapist in the Metrowest community for the past eight years and moved his family here to Natick in 2021. His passion for health and wellness with an emphasis on sports medicine, movement and exercise led him to pursue a career in physical therapy. He graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelors of Rehabilitation Science in 2013 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014.
When getting started with a new patient, Will believes it’s important to dig deep into each individual’s story including injury/medical history and completing a thorough movement assessment and physical exam to make an individualized treatment plan. A whole body approach is key in making lasting changes in how the body feels and performs. He has an expert skill set of manual techniques including joint mobilization/manipulation, soft tissue/myofascial release, assisted stretching and dry needling. These combined with thoughtful mobility drills, corrective exercise, neuromuscular re-education and strength training round out his approach to achieve optimal results that stick.
After an alpine ski racing injury left Will with a torn ACL in need of reconstruction, he got to experience the surgical rehab process firsthand. This unique perspective has given him an appreciation of the physical and mental challenges when orthopedic surgery is needed. Prehab and post-operative rehabilitation require the PT to be a coach to help educate and guide each individual through the process- preparing for surgery, knowing what to expect and how best to resume desired activities when appropriate Will. Over his years of practice, Will has enjoyed working with an outstanding network of area physicians to help manage his clients’ orthopedic issues with a team approach. The body is resilient and can cope with a tremendous amount of stress, wear and tear, injury, surgery and come out even stronger on the other side if we can support it and care for it in the appropriate manner.
Will has a particular interest in running related injuries. He has experience working with runners of all levels from casual joggers to competitive marathoners. With each runner, Will performs a thorough physical and movement assessment, gait analysis, reviews current and goal weekly mileage. From there we will formulate a specific plan to knock down training barriers and get you back up and running full tilt on your terms.
Will is certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and holds advanced certifications in Functional Dry Needling, Blood Flow Restriction, Graston Technique, and Selective Functional Movement Assessment. He regularly attends advanced courses and certifications to continue learning and improve his practice.
