Book We Like

I recently came across the book, You're Only Old Once! by Dr. Seuss at a book sale and purchased it for my daughter. Only upon reading it did I realize it's actually intended for an adult audience, or "obsolete children" as Seuss hilariously prefers to put it.
The story follows an unnamed elderly man who embarks on a whimsical and satirical journey through a complex and overwhelming medical system. As he visits an exaggerated series of specialists and undergoes an endless array of bizarre tests, the book playfully pokes fun at the often tedious and confusing aspects of aging and healthcare. I found this commentary on our medical system deeply amusing and felt the need to share.
I'll leave my copy out in the clinic for the next couple of weeks, so take a peek the next time you're in!
Principle We Like
Occam's Razor
Named after William of Occam, a 14th-century philosopher, Occam's Razor is a principle that states that the simplest explanation for a problem is usually the best one. For example, if you wake up with a stiff neck, it's more likely that you slept in an awkward position than it is that you have a more serious medical condition.
It's important to note that Occam's Razor is not a law, and it doesn't mean you should always oversimplify things. More complex explanations should certainly be considered if there is evidence supporting them.
