Changing How You View Your Health
This Will Change How You View Your Health

I really enjoyed watching the Paris Olympics over the last couple of weeks. Not only was it thrilling to see elite athletes compete at the highest level, but it was a nice break from trying to find something to watch every night!
The intense competition of the Olympics got me thinking about game theory. Now before you stop reading and go back to your email inbox, stick with me for a moment...
There’s a concept within game theory that categorizes games into two types: finite and infinite.
In finite games, there’s a clearly defined end point and there are winners and losers. The goal of a finite game is to win.
Infinite games are just the opposite: there’s no end point and there are no winners or losers. The goal of an infinite game is to keep playing the game.
The Olympics are a perfect example of finite games. Each event has a well-defined end point and there are winners and losers.
What’s an example of an infinite game?
Your health.
There’s no real end point to your health and you don’t exactly get a medal for it either.
Think of it this way: if you lose 20 pounds, should you stop eating well? If you reach your goal of running a 5k, should you stop exercising?
No!
Since your health is an infinite game, the goal is to stay healthy. And that means your health requires constant attention.
We’re almost at the midpoint of August and there are only a few weeks of summer left. If you’re like me, you’ve probably gotten out of your normal routine a bit. In a way, that’s what summer is all about.
But Labor Day is right around the corner and it’s time to dial in your health and get back into a routine.
Don’t wait until after Labor Day to figure things out.
