A Pebble, a Shoe, and Physical Therapy

A few weeks ago, as I was putting my shoes on in the morning, I felt a pebble in my right shoe. I was trying to get out the door, so I ignored it. “I’ll take it out later,” I thought to myself.

The next morning, I put my shoes on and felt the pebble again. “Oh yeah,” I thought, “I have to get that pebble out of my shoe,” and proceeded to walk out the door.

This routine went on for weeks. I’d put my shoes on in the morning, feel that pebble in the same spot every time, tell myself I was going to remove it, and end up doing nothing.

During this time, I even had a client stop during a session to remove a pebble from their shoe. It reminded me that I had to do the same thing, but did I? Nope.

After weeks of this, I began feeling more discomfort in my foot when I put my shoes on in the morning. Up until this point, it was more of an annoyance, but now my foot was starting to hurt more.

Finally, I took the pebble out. You’re probably wondering by now, “Why so much talk about a pebble?”

This story represents something that we see a lot at PT PROGRESSION. Quite often, we learn that people have been ignoring their aches and pains for a long time.

They live with the annoyance, as I did, and only seek help when it gets much worse. But it doesn’t have to get worse.

That’s why we strongly believe in being proactive about your body. It’s far better for your health and well-being to get ahead of potential issues before they arise.

So, how long are you going to put off those nagging aches and pains?
